Citizenship
There are different ways in becoming an Australian citizen. You must meet the requirements before we apply for your Australian citizenship.
There are 3 ways to become an Australian citizen:
- by Conferral of being Permanent residents or New Zealand citizens,
- by Conferral of being over 60 years old, and
- by Descent if your parent was an Australian citizen when you were born overseas.
Permanent residents or New Zealand citizens
- Australian permanent residents aged between 18 to 59
- Children aged between 16 to 17
- Children 15 years or younger who are applying with a parent or a guardian
- Commonwealth Child Migration Scheme Migrants
- Eligible New Zealand citizens
- Partners or spouses of an Australian citizen
- Refugees or humanitarian migrants
Person 60 years or over
- Permanent residents aged 60 years or over
- Commonwealth Child Migration Scheme Migrants
- Eligible New Zealand citizens
- Partners or spouses of an Australian citizen
- Refugees or humanitarian migrants
Your parent was an Australian citizen when you were born overseas
- People born overseas to a parent who is or was an Australian citizen and for parents to register a child born overseas
